The Swamp School offers over 50 different classes in environmental and ecological science. They range from beginner to expert. The help you make a decision about what the best class you should take we have organized the classes by skill levels. Each class is tagged with the appropriate skill level. The short video below explains this in more detail.
Skill Levels
Level I
Level I is our beginner stage. These classes are perfect for recent graduates, new hires, career changers, or anyone who needs to gain an entry level knowledge of a specific topic. These classes are designed to to provide enough training to enable you to learn and preform a specific task within a relatively short period of time. A great example of this is our Wetland Delineation Training class. This is a beginner level class that enables students upon completion to be able to perform wetland delineations. Many wetland science employers require this class to be considered for employment. The student will receive a certificate of training documenting the student’s participation in the class.
Level II
Level II is a skills building stage. The classes we offer are designed to expand on the skills learned in the Level I programs. An example of a Level II class is our National Ordinary High Water Mark Field Delineation for Rivers and Streams. This class requires a basic understanding of wetlands to be able to preform an Ordinary High Water Mark determination. The student will receive a certificate of training documenting the student’s basic skills assessment for the class.
Level III
Level III is an advanced certification level. The classes offered at this level are advanced topics that provider a deeper understanding of the subject material. This level is also a certification level where the student will be required to demonstrate proficiency in the subject matter. At the end of the program the student will receive a training certification that validates the student’s demonstrated understanding of the topic. Our Certified Hydric Soils Investigator is an example of a Level III class.
Level IV
Level IV is reserved for our most advanced classes. This level requires a proficiency in the topic the student is pursuing. This may also include prerequisite classes from any of the previous levels. These classes are capstone programs and also require knowledge and experience gained from work in the field. Our Certified Wetland Delineator is an example of this type of class.
